Colin Fenster: Triathlons

Sometimes you have to constantly train to pursue your passion. For Colin Fenster, it’s an athletic journey to the finish line. Read his #PassionPreview: “I’m passionate about triathlons - competing and training. I got into it a few years ago when a friend suggested that I try one. I'll be honest: I was terrible! But it hooked me; the feeling of camaraderie one the race course and the therapeutic nature of long runs & bike rides gives me a great chance to think without distractions, something which has become increasingly challenging in the modern world.”

Why triathlons? “I am passionate about triathlons because they allow me to truly be me - outgoing, competitive, and supportive of others. Training towards a goal has helped me become more centered and has driven me to pursue other goals I previously would not have had the confidence to achieve, both academically and socially. It's hard not to be passionate about something that has helped me feel comfortable expressing myself. “

To someone not interested in triathlons: “I completely understand. I understand that the sport is not for everyone; that said, I'd love to have a conversation with you about what makes it so special for me and to show you how it makes for such a unique outlet for expressing yourself. Life is about having something that allows you to be you, and for me, I've discovered that triathlon is that avenue. So I'd encourage you to understand that while I have found triathlon, I'd love to hear about what your passion is (and who knows, maybe I will be passionate about that as well)!”

To someone interested in triathlons: “The triathlon community is incredibly welcoming. There's always someone there to help you. I know it can seem daunting at first, but anyone who is passionate about the sport will be more than happy to help you find your way in.”
